JOB DESCRIPTION

THE ROLE OF THE LEAD PASTOR is to lead Scio Community Church’s congregation further in its mission to fulfill the Great Commission and the Great Commandments by: “Serving our communities with Christ-like compassion and humility, sharing our stories of God’s transforming work in our lives, and sending disciples into the world to make Jesus known, both near and far—so that God is glorified in all we do”. Their focus will be to communicate the Word of God clearly while discipling and training up followers of Jesus of all ages to serve Him in alignment with their giftedness and while encouraging them to further love & serve those who do not yet know him.

The Lead Pastor will report to and is accountable to the Elder Board.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Spiritual:

  • Is a born-again believer through faith in Jesus Christ, having made a personal profession of faith in Jesus Christ
  • Lives consistently with and in commitment to the requirements of an Elder as set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
  • Demonstrates a vital and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, is a person of prayer and the Word, and is a model of a Biblical pattern of life and leadership; demonstrates a love for God and His people.
  • Shows evidence of control by the Holy Spirit in all aspects of personal life and in the ministry of Scio Community Church.
  • Agreement with the doctrinal statement of the Christian & Missionary Alliance.

Personal:

  • Exhibits the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
  • Is well-ordered and disciplined in his spiritual, personal, and family life.
  • Has an approachable, humble, compassionate, and conscientious nature.
  • Can be a visionary and pioneering leader who establishes new communities and initiatives.
  • Has a heart for sharing the good news and focuses on bringing people to the faith.

Professional:

  • A ministry degree (Theology, Biblical Studies, or Pastoral Ministry), appropriate educational or practical experience.
  • Ability to become licensed and ordained in the Christian & Missionary Alliance.
  • "Years of experience" is less important than depth of experience and posture. Scio has an elder board with many years of experience to support a pastor with a humble heart and an openness to receive

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Submit prayerfully to God’s direction/vision for the church
  • Prepare and preach the Word of God at least 42 weeks per year
  • Feed a hungry congregation not only by preaching, but in personal discipleship and leadership to share their stories with the community around them.
  • Mentor and recruit potential leaders for various ministries.
  • Come alongside leadership as they continue exploring new opportunities and implement better ministry strategies to love the lost of Ann Arbor and beyond.
  • Spend regular time for personal study and professional development
  • Model healthy personal relationship with the Lord by taking a sabbath regularly
  • Provide pastoral care through visitation and counseling. (Have regular office hours or availability for those seeking to contact.) Regularly engage with the congregation members
  • Touch base with lay leaders in preparation for Sunday Services and other regular church events. Work alongside other members and volunteers, providing mutual support towards the harmonious functioning of all Scio ministries to the glory of God
  • Being present and involved in key ministry events of the church: Easter, Christmas,etc.
  • Help to plan and implement local and global outreach opportunities.
  • Worship service involvement: Preaching and communion. If the candidate is gifted in singing or playing an instrument, they would be encouraged to be involved in the worship ministry but not required.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend scheduled elder meetings.
  • Take on other responsibilities as needed.
    • Funerals/Weddings.
    • Other items as deemed necessary by Elders.
  • Take part in all “All Hands On Deck” events that may be planned during the year.
