Job Description: The Director of Children’s Formation at York Alliance is responsible to develop, implement and nurture a vision for Children’s Formation which helps children and their families, “be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do the things Jesus did.” While this will inevitably require direct involvement, this role is primarily responsible for equipping volunteers for the work of children’s formation. This position requires an average of 45-50 hours per week.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work with the XPM to develop, lead and consistently implement a vision for Children’s Formation that coincides with the vision of YAC and is aligned with the discipleship/spiritual formation pathway of the church.
  • Establish and equip a core teaching team (during the school year and summer) to instruct children in God’s Word weekly on Sundays. Work with the XPM to select a biblically based curriculum.
  • Support and provide leadership and vision for the midweek children’s formation program.
  • Provide resources and guidance for Community Group Shepherds to engage children within their groups.
  • Coordinate all childcare needs for Sunday celebration gatherings and all special events.
  • Coordinate and facilitate special events for Children’s Formation throughout the year (Retreats, Camps, etc.)
  • Effectively communicate the status of Children’s Formation to all parents and the congregation.
  • Manage children’s resources and ensure proper care of facility used by children.
  • Ensure ongoing child safety through a program that includes background checks, safety policies, procedures, etc.
  • Maintain a process of welcoming, inviting and engaging new children in Children’s Formation.
  • Function as part of a staff team that has input and ownership into all facets of formation at YAC.
  • As part of the York Alliance Family of Churches, the Director of Children’s Formation at the York Alliance Campus will set the pace for the corresponding role at the other campuses. This does not imply supervision. Rather, it includes but is not limited to the following: Vetting resources
  • Assist Campus Pastor/Church Planter in training church plant core team members prior to launch
  • Ongoing general support and collaboration within purview
  • Determining standards of accountability to formation processes, in concert with other applicable leadership (Campus Pastors, Elders, etc.)
  • Develop an annual budget for Children’s Formation and manage spending accordingly.
  • Engage regional interaction with groups or events relevant to Children’s Formation.
  • Establish a Sabbath day and be held accountable to it.
  • Maintain a healthy balance between family life, work, and other responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in Children’s Formation or as a teacher
  • Possess a passion for developing children into followers of Jesus
  • Strong leader with a dependable and timely work ethic
  • Possess strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage children and their parents.

Church Size: Regular weekly attendance is between 400-500, with roughly 800 calling YAC their church home. York Alliance is the anchor campus in the York Alliance Family of Churches, which is currently four campuses.

Church History: YAC began in 1932 and has remained a significant Kingdom presence in York since that time. After residing at several different locations, the church building has, for the last 60+ years, been on Rathton Rd. on the southern border of the city of York, located between two colleges (Penn State York and York College) and just down the street from the York (Wellspan) Hospital.

Church Vision: YAC's mission is "All of Jesus for the Whole Person to the Whole World." Their vision is to pursue the transformational love of Jesus by building communities that share His love with all people. They believe disciples are those who called to be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did.
