Department: | Solo Pastor |
Office: | Northeastern |
Adirondack Alliance Church in Saranac Lake, New York is seeking to fill the position of part-time (with the goal of becoming full-time), solo pastor for our twenty-member church. The successful candidate will have a passion for shepherding and Bible-based teaching while providing the vision and leadership desired as we grow in our walk with Jesus Christ. It is a priority of our church to welcome and support a pastor with a strong desire to become an active, integral member not only of our church but the greater community as well. He should feel a strong calling to reach out to the unchurched in our community, in particular young couples and singles. Also, our next pastor will enjoy working with and ministering to youth of all ages.
Our church began as a house church in 1999 and became affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance church in 2000. In those early years, we were blessed with several young families and the number of children outnumbered the adults. In more recent years the average age of our members has ticked upwards. We are praying for a pastor with fresh ideas to help us present our church as an inviting place for anyone seeking the presence of the Holy Spirit and the warmth of Christian fellowship.
In 2005 we purchased the building we use as our church. In addition to Sunday services, our building is used for a wide variety of church-based and community outreach ministries and programs. Either presently or within the immediate past, we have hosted several Young Life programs including a Thursday morning breakfast for high school students, an active quilting group, two community choirs, a men’s breakfast, and Bible study groups. The local Boy Scouts have used our building for their meetings.
Most of our members are actively involved in community service opportunities including our local homeless shelter and recently opened pregnancy center. Most of the twelve churches in our community have representatives on a very active Ecumenical Council which is well-funded and runs several ministries in our village to help those in need.
Saranac Lake is a small rural village in the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York. It has a population of about 5,000 making it the largest village in the Park. The Adirondack Park, with a total population of 135,000, is an area about the size of Massachusetts, and is the largest protected area in the continental U.S.; it is larger than Yosemite, Everglades, Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone National Parks combined. Saranac Lake sits in the middle of an area known as the Tri-Lakes area with Tupper Lake to the west and Lake Placid to the east. Lake Placid hosted the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. The Olympic complex and surrounding area, including Saranac Lake, hosts a wide array of local, national, and international athletic competitions all year long. Saranac Lake is well-known for its Winter Carnival each February and the only Ice Palace in the United States constructed entirely by local volunteers. With numerous mountains, trails, and waterways to explore, the area in and around Saranac Lake is a wonderful place for anyone to live who enjoys the great outdoors!
The village of Saranac Lake has many quaint shops and small restaurants. Essentially anything normally associated with a larger urban area can be found in our community; however, the nearest mall and Walmart is an hour away. Our local economy is supported primarily through tourism.
For those able to embrace the relative remoteness of living in an area surrounded by God’s natural beauty, Saranac Lake can be a wonderful place for a young family to thrive. Our local public school has a K-12 student population of about 1,100 students and has excellent academic, music, and athletic programs. In addition, several highly rated private and parochial schools in our area provide a wide range of options for the parents of school-aged children.
To be considered for this position, please complete the application to include your testimony, resume and other background information related to the position.
