The Big Picture
Silicon Valley Alliance Church (https://wp.svac-cma.org/) is searching for a passionate Senior Pastor to lead by example and provide godly leadership as our church grows into the next season of ministry. We are excited for a pastor who is visionary, energetic, collaborative, and most importantly, is walking intimately with Jesus.
The Church
At Silicon Valley Alliance Church, we are a community of people who love God with all of our heart by learning and living according to what the Bible teaches and loving our neighbors. We are passionate about following Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and want everyone to know about the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ. The church is part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, and was founded in Fremont, CA in 1994, and relocated to Milpitas 3 years later in 1997. Today, SVAC, with average attendance of approximately 270, continues to welcome everyone in Milpitas and the surrounding community to join our English, Cantonese, and Mandarin services as well as its community groups and activities.
Major Areas of Responsibility
1. Leading and Vision Casting
- Develop and articulate a clear and compelling vision for the church's future.
- Communicate the vision to the congregation, staff, and leadership teams consistently and effectively.
- Inspire and mobilize the church community to embrace and pursue the vision.
- Evaluate and adjust the vision as needed to respond to changing circumstances and opportunities.
2. Preaching and Teaching God’sWord
- Preach effectively at worship and other services, and give significant attention to preparation for sermons.
- Be faithful to Scripture; guide the congregation to understand and apply the scripture to their lives.
- Prepare and lead targeted seminar-style training as needed.
- Set aside regular times of study in order to be personally equipped for sharing theWord with others.
3. Shepherding, Discipling and Caregiving
- Spiritual Guidance: Shepherds provide sound biblical teaching and counsel, helping members grow in their faith and navigate life's challenges.
- Protection: Shepherds safeguard the congregation from false teachings and spiritual dangers, fostering a safe and nurturing environment.
- Encouragement: Shepherds offer words of encouragement and hope, uplifting those who are weary and burdened.
- Discipleship: Shepherds mentor and disciple individuals, fostering spiritual maturity and equipping them for ministry.
- Prayer: Shepherds intercede for the congregation, lifting up their needs and concerns before God.
- Emotional Support: Caregivers provide a listening ear and emotional comfort to those facing difficult
circumstances.
- Visitation: Caregivers visit the sick, elderly, and homebound members, offering companionship and encouragement.
- Resource Connection: Caregivers connect individuals with resources and services that can address their specific needs.
- Advocacy: Caregivers advocate for the well-being of individuals, ensuring they receive the necessary care and support.
4. Developing Leaders
- Lead the development and promote a culture of raising up lay leaders; and work actively to equip, support, and encourage these leaders.
- Lead staff in developing and maintaining a process of assimilation of new attendees and follow-up of existing attendees. Provide direction, encouragement, and ongoing supervision for all paid staff.
- Provide regular feedback to staff regarding performance, including an annual written performance review. Lead staff in developing their ministry goals and accountability in pursuing those goals.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to SVAC Preaching Team.
- Recommend new staff positions as needed to the Governing Board.
5. Evangelizing
- Relate regularly to unbelievers, bring people to faith in Christ; lead and train the church in effective outreach, especially to young adults.
- Ensure that believers (especially new believers) receive comprehensive discipleship. They are not only introduced to the faith but are also nurtured and supported as they grow.
- Encourage church members to participate in outreach activities, fostering a culture of evangelism within the church.
- Understand the unique perspectives of young adults, build authentic relationships, and create a supportive faith community with them with patience and persistence.

- Build - Has a vision and skill-set to build a leadership development structure, developing both staff and lay ministry leaders, who will carry out the mission and vision of the church.
- Equip - Together with the staff and lay ministry leaders within the built structure, has the ability to equip and train the church to carry out the mission and vision of the church.
- Multiply - Has the ability to multiply local church leaders as a result of the commitment to building and equipping.
- Send - Has the commitment to send harvest workers to “win” in our local community and beyond.
Education and Experience Requirements
- A demonstrated and modeled life of moral and ethical purity, together with the qualities of an elder as described in 1 Timothy and Titus.
- Currently be an ordained pastor, preferably with senior pastor experience.
- Candidates must be willing to seek continuing education to be licensed, credentialed, and ordained in the Christian & Missionary Alliance. Candidates already licensed with the C&MA are preferred.
- Multi-language speaking is an advantage.
