Department: | Associate Pastor |
Office: | South Pacific Alliance |
The desire of New Life Christian Alliance Church is to build a strong foundation to carry on a vibrant and thriving legacy of faith in Jesus Christ from one generation to the next (Psalm 145:4). We are a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and bi-lingual church community with two Sunday services. The church operates under a complementarian and elder-led form of church governance. It is committed to an expository preaching style with the study of Gods word as the focus of its sermons and separate bible study sessions. We are committed to the overall mission of the Christian and Missionary Alliance to fulfill the great commission by supporting efforts to bring the gospel to all peoples at home and abroad.
The primary role of this position is to serve as the lead pastor for the preaching and teaching ministry of the English congregation. Additionally, the associate pastor is expected to work with the other pastoral staff to engage in discipling, shepherding, and counseling congregation members.
This ministry position is a full-time, exempt position with a salary that is commensurate with experience.
II PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION
To serve as the lead pastor for the churchs pulpit ministry. The associate pastor will be charged with developing the preaching focus and sermon series (the Chinese and English congregations preach through the same passage) and to assume the primary preaching role in the English-language service. Although
other pastoral staff will be available to assist with preaching on occasion, the
associate pastor for preaching is expected to be prepared to preach weekly and
serve as the primary preaching pastor for the English-language service.
To serve as an elder to the congregation. All associate pastors serve as elders in church leadership. They serve alongside lay elders on the church governing board; should be prepared to administer the ordinances (baptism and communion); and are expected to be involved in matters of church membership and discipline.
To serve as a shepherd of congregation members. The associate pastor is expected to assist with shepherding the church body, with a specific focus on families and individuals who worship in the English-language service. In this capacity, he is expected to work with lay leadership to develop ways to encourage community, outreach and discipleship and then oversee congregation members to execute that vision. This may include teaching outside of the pulpit, regular meetings with lay leadership to organize outreach efforts, and coordination of small groups/cell groups/bible studies.
To give biblical counsel to congregation members. The associate pastor is expected to develop enduring relationships with congregation members so that he can be aware of their spiritual and physical needs, faithfully pray for members, and biblically correct or address spiritual concerns. This may include presiding over weddings, funerals, and visitation as the need arises.
To be an integral member of the church body. Pastors are expected to worship regularly with the church body on Sunday mornings, participate in church sponsored activities, and embrace the church community as their own.
