Job Description:

The church planting resident is an 18-24 month position that prepares the candidate to become a church planter with York Alliance/Spring Grove network of churches. As a church planting resident, the candidate will be trained and coached through a developmental program established by the local church. In the residency environment, the candidate will learn and grow in the areas of disciple making, spiritual formation, Community Group ministry, adaptive leadership, emotional health, prayer, preaching/teaching the Gospel, administration and operations, and more through a personalized plan. This plan will be based on the candidate’s current level of knowledge and experience in the areas above.

Key Characteristics:

A Church Planting Resident is expected to be a Gospel-centered, forward-thinking leader who has a clear and affirmed call to church planting. They are to grow as a follower of Jesus through a personal rule of life. They are expected to humbly seek development through healthy personal relationships and a lifestyle of disciple making in their community. They are expected to be creative and collaborative in their learning process as they seek to carry out the call of God on their life to reach new people with the Gospel.

Essential Job Functions:

Develop and execute a personalized development plan based on the Alliance Eastern PA Multipliers Residency and in collaboration with the Pastor of Mission and Multiplication. The candidate will carry out this plan while serving in a local church where you will:

  • Develop a strategy for the new church plant
  • Participate in, and eventually lead, a Community Group
  • Seek to evaluate and strengthen your marriage/family with the help of an older mentor.
  • Execute a missional living plan
  • Grow in spiritual formation through establishing a rule of life
  • Grow in relational disciple making
  • Participate, lead, and multiply ministry teams
  • Practice and develop preaching/teaching skills
  • Learn the administrative and operational systems of the York Alliance/Spring Grove network of churches
  • Connect with the local community through serving
  • Engage in an Alliance global missions partnership
  • Complete recommended readings and specialized training outline in plan
  • Function as a member of the YAC staff participating in team meetings and staff sabbath.
  • Submit to the authority of the C&MA denominational leadership.
  • Establish a Sabbath day and be held accountable to it.
  • Maintain a healthy balance between family life, ministry and other responsibilities.

Requirements:

  • Has a deep and passionate relationship with Jesus.
  • This position requires ordination through the C&MA.
  • Experience with starting ministries in new contexts, communities, and cultures
  • Highly strategic, organized, and entrepreneurial with exceptional communication skills
  • Creativity and a willingness to try new approaches
  • Established skills in team implementation, decision-making, and relationship-building
  • Demonstrate a faithful pursuit of leadership characteristics as listed in 1 Tim 3, Titus 1 and 1 Peter 5.

Church Information

Church Size: Attendance of 400-500 on an average Sunday, including children

Church History: York Alliance was officially incorporated as an Alliance church in 1932. There is a rich history of both local and global missions, with active partnerships around the world. The staff and leadership of York Alliance have been remarkably stable, with only four lead pastors serving over the last 50 years. Over the last several years YAC has developed an increased focus on spiritual formation in addition to the vibrant worship and deeply connected community.
