Senior Pastor/Church Planter - Christ Community Church, Rugby, ND

Department: Church Planting
Office: North Central

Position Overview:

Christ Community Church is seeking a senior pastor to partner with and lead us forward as we strive to fulfill The Great Commission by living out our core values. We started Christ Community in January of 2020, and are currently meeting in a rented store front property. Weekly summer attendance runs between 30-40, with that number rising to 60 per week when Bible Studies and other ministries are meeting. We are seeking a pastor who is willing to become credentialed through the C&MA. As a current developing church plant, monthly coaching and relational investment from the North Central District Office makes this position a unique opportunity to serve and grow.

Christ Community’s current leadership team is leaning towards retirement and are very encouraged that the majority of our attendees are young families. Our new pastor will be strongly supported by the current leadership team and the church family and prayerfully and diligently encouraged and guided along as we strive to see Christ Community reach more and more people for Jesus.

Our Core Values:

  1. Biblical Teaching – It is our desire to lead people out of a commitment to God’s Word, so that together we grow in our love and application of it (Hebrews 4:12).

  2. Biblical Worship - We glorify God and experience His presence through corporate and personal worship that is God centered, life changing and based on biblical principles, resulting in expressions of gratitude, honor and service (1 Chronicles 16:23, 24, 29, 31)

  3. Prayer - We elevate communication with God as an essential means for personal transformation and effective ministry, which pleases and honors Him (Hebrews 4:16).

  4. Equipping & Multiplying Disciples - We equip followers of Christ to cultivate their spiritual lives in order to nurture Christ likeness and reproduce ministry in others (John 15:16-17).

  5. Evangelism - We actively build relationships with non- believers to communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ through word and deed, both locally and globally (Matthew 28:19-20).

Community Profile:

Rugby is a community with a rich history as the first non-Native residents were British farmers that moved from the Hudson Bay area in 1812. The city as we know it today was founded in 1886 at a junction of the Great Northern Railway, where a branch line to Bottineau met the main line. Our unique name comes from Rugby, Warwickshire, England as several of the cities along the Great Northern Route were named after cites from the homeland. The Empire Builder Amtrack Route from Chicago to Seattle has been running since 1929 and stops twice daily in Rugby. Along with the railroad, Rugby is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 2 and North Dakota Highway 3 - making for convenient travel in all directions. Although the “designation carries no official status” in 1931 Rugby erected a 15-ft rock tower marking it as the "Geographical Center of North America".

Major employers are Heart of America Medical Center, whose new Critical Access Hospital is opening in the fall of 2024 (https://www.hamc.com/). Rugby Manufacturing (https://www.rugbymfg.com/), Heart of America Correctional Facility (https://www.piercecountynd.gov/departments/correctional-facility/) and Rugby Public Schools (https://www.rugby.k12.nd.us/) which is completing a 10 million dollar elementary school expansion by the fall of 2023.

Within a 65-mile radius of Rugby you will find numerous golf courses, wildlife management areas with public hunting, State Parks, The International Peace Gardens, and many lakes, including Devils Lake - famous for year around fishing (https://gf.nd.gov/hunting).

As reported in the 2019 Demographic Study conducted by the North Central District of the C&MA there are currently 3,489 persons residing in the defined study area. The study also shows that this population is spread out over the study area as agriculture is the primary industry and we have ranch families driving over 20 miles to church. The study also revealed that “based upon the number of different lifestyle and racial/ethnic groups in the area” the overall diversity in the study area can be described as “somewhat high”.

Even though we are an hour from “big city” life, Rugby has several quality restaurants, six banks, movie theater, airport, swimming pool, children’s theater, two auto dealerships, radio station, children’s summer baseball leagues and excellent academic, music, and sports programing at the schools.
