Next Gen/Worship Pastor - Billings, MT

Department: Next Gen Ministries
Office: Rocky Mountain

First Alliance Church

Assistant Pastor of Next Gen/Worship - Job Description

First Alliance Church in Billings MT is seeking a person who is highly motivated to reach the next generation, and is willing to invest themselves in a local church that is seeking to reposition themselves to do just that. For this full-time staff position, we envision someone in their mid-twenties or thirties, perhaps with a wife and family who has skills in leading people in worship, connecting with children, teens and young adults (both individuals and families), and helping them grow into a personal walk with Jesus. We are a church with a rich legacy of significant ministry to our community and the nations. As we look to the future, we are excited to see how the LORD will lead, and what the next chapter of Kingdom ministry will look like.

The candidate must be credentialed or able to be credentialed with the Christian & Missionary Alliance. The Assistant Pastor is directly supervised by the Senior Pastor & serves under the constituted authority of the First Alliance Church (FAC) Governing Board.

We anticipate the Assistant Pastor developing & growing into these Next Generation ministry responsibilities:

  • To provide visionary & strategic leadership for Next Generation Ministries.
  • To nurture a culture within FAC that helps our people love on and minister to children, youth, college students, young adults, and young families.
  • To develop a discipleship culture that mentors the Next Gen people at FAC on how to live out their faith & tell their story to the not-yet-reached.

  • To identify, train up & release emerging leaders into leadership roles, while encouraging older, seasoned church leaders to coach these emerging leaders.

  • To develop new initiatives that will help us effectively reach children, youth, college students, young adults & young families, making them a part of the growing FAC faith community.

  • To mentor & resource the Next Gen team leaders of Children, Youth, & the College and Career ministries, while encouraging them as they do the work of ministry with their teams.

  • To help Next Gen ministry leaders develop and manage their budgets.

We anticipate the Assistant Pastor leading & moving into these Worship Responsibilities:

  1. To nurture a “blended” worship style that provides a “younger expression” of worship, while still giving space for those who express worship in more traditional ways. By "blended," we mean a mix of both newer and older songs, along with other creative elements (such as video, drama, spoken Word, etc), which together form a more contemporary expression of worship.
  2. To continue building a team of musicians & vocalists, supported by the Tech Team, that together serve our FAC family by leading us into God’s presence, as we celebrate Jesus in Spirit and in truth.
  3. To closely work with the Senior Pastor, in the planning and development of weekly worship services, and to assist in planning and/or serving in special services such as weddings, funerals and Nights of Worship.
  4. To cultivate a learning culture that encourages both the Worship & Tech Teams to continue growing in their faith & obedience to Christ.
  5. To resource Worship Team members with opportunities to grow in their area of giftedness (whether musically or vocally).
  6. To oversee the Tech Team, as they mix sound, develop & display worship slides or videos, and provide live streaming of our worship services.
  7. To develop & financially manage the Worship & Tech Team yearly budgets.

Time Commitment

This full-time paid staff position involves at least 45 hours of ministry per week. As a general guideline, approximately 30 hours per week will be focused on Next Gen Ministries, giving strategic leadership, helping the church develop a vibrant Next Gen welcoming culture, and coaching ministry team leaders as they serve alongside their people. The remaining 15 hours/week will be dedicated to worship service planning, team practices, communication, vetting new musicians or vocalists, mentoring team members, and leading worship on Sundays (along with any other planned special events).

Compensation

The financial package will be negotiated based on the candidate's ministry experience and family needs.

FAC will match up to 3% in retirement savings, if the pastor invests in the Alliance retirement program. Health care coverage will be up to the pastor to secure and cover the premiums & deductibles.

The Assistant Pastor shall be entitled to at least 14 days paid time off each fiscal year, including 2 Sundays off (more PTO may be negotiated based on ministry experience). Each completed year of service at FAC will add an additional day of PTO (up to a maximum of 30 days). All planned vacation days must be pre-approved by the Senior Pastor before they are added to the master calendar.

RMD events and national C&MA events (such as Camp ministry, District Conference and General Council) do not count as vacation time.

At least quarterly, the Assistant Pastor will be released from all ministry responsibilities, so they may enjoy Sunday worship with their wife & family.

Performance Reviews

The Senior Pastor will provide regular feedback to the Assistant Pastor, to help them grow into their role and continue to serve with excellence.

An informal meeting with the Senior Pastor will take place quarterly, to discuss progress on the Next Gen & Worship ministries, and address challenges being faced.

On or near the hiring anniversary date, the Senior Pastor and an Elder, will conduct a formal job performance evaluation. A written copy of the evaluation will be provided to the Assistant Pastor. Another copy will be kept in a permanent personnel file. Following the evaluation, a written or verbal summary will be given to the Governing Board at its next meeting.
