Associate Pastor of Student Ministries - Verndale Alliance Church, Verndale, MN

Overview:

The Associate Pastor will work in coordination with the lead pastor in helping the church to accomplish the Verndale Alliance Church mission statement which is, “Helping people trust in Jesus as their Lord and Savior and become like Him.”

The youth ministry (7-12 grade) will serve as the primary platform of ministry. VAC desires to hire someone whose goal is to grow in ministry. Additional areas of responsibility will be determined based on the candidate’s interests and gifting. Possible areas of focus may include: missions mobilization, small group ministry, discipleship ministry, young adult ministry, or technology (sound and web based ministry).

Responsibilities:

  • Provide personal leadership of the Jr. & Sr. High youth groups.
  • Develop outcomes for Youth ministry. This will ensure that the ministry is on track toward the development of the individual youth toward spiritual maturity.
  • Encourage the parents to become actively engaged in the spiritual discipleship of their youth.
  • Create and implement strategies to reach the youth of the community for Christ.
  • Recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers to lead in the youth ministry.
  • Be an active part of a Connection Group (adult small group).
  • Involvement in the budgeting process for ministries under his oversight.
  • Promote, and if possible participate in the youth camping programs through Big Sandy Camp and/or Camp of the Master.
  • Ensure that all youth volunteers comply with “Safe Church” protocols.
  • Fulfill pastoral duties of assigned associated ministries as directed.
  • Able to preach in the lead pastor’s absence or as required.

Relationships:

  • He will be amenable to the lead Pastor and the Elder Board.
  • He will work closely with the lead Pastor, other staff, and the Administrative Assistant daily.
  • He will attend the weekly staff meeting.
  • He will attend the monthly Elder Board meeting or submit a written report to the lead pastor.
  • He will attend all worship services and participate in them as requested by the lead Pastor.
  • He will seek to develop relationships with individuals as a friend and spiritual leader which will be conducive to leading them to Christ and helping them to mature in Him.
  • Will attend the monthly District prayer area pastors meeting (Sept.-May)
  • Will attend the annual North Central District Conference
  • May attend the annual District Pastor & Wives Retreat/Pastor’s Institute
  • May attend the biennial Council of the C&MA

Qualifications:

  • A clear testimony of conversion to Christ and the call of God to pastoral ministry.
  • A passion for Christ personally and Christ-centered ministry/preaching/teaching.
  • His character must be consistent with the Biblical qualifications for an elder in 1 Tim.3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4
  • Able to model in his family the characteristics of a Christ-centered healthy marriage and family (if married).
  • Agreement with the stated core values of VAC.
  • 4-year undergrad degree from an accredited Christian college minimum, with post-grad degree a plus.
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience preferred.
  • Ordained with the C&MA or in the ordination process.
  • Doctrine is consistent with the C&MA Statement of Faith.
  • Vision for ministry consistent with the VAC Mission Statement.
  • Must be outgoing, people oriented and friendly by temperament.
  • Skill set must include administrative ability to manage and work well with people, be well-organized, manage time well, delegate responsibility, good communication, and have adequate computer skills.

Compensation, Benefits And Schedule:

  • Competitive salary including health insurance stipend, 403(b), and housing allowance
  • Parsonage, gas, electric, water, sewer, and garbage removal included
  • 40-50hr. work week average.
  • Vacation schedule per C&MA/District guidelines
  • Paid sick time

Church Overview:

  • Verndale Alliance church is in Verndale Minnesota, a rural farming community of approximately 500 people. We are 6 miles from a community of over 4,000 with many opportunities for shopping and entertainment. We are also located about 30 minutes from the Brainerd lakes area and an hour from the Saint Cloud metro area.
  • VAC is a loving, established church with an average Sunday attendance of 200+. Our youth ministry currently reaches between 40-60 youth a week. Our congregation has a good mix of ages represented. In addition to the lead pastor, current staff includes an associate pastor overseeing small groups and leadership development, a children’s ministry director, and office administrator.

Ideal Candidate:

  • As noted in the overview, the ideal candidate is actively looking to grow their ministry competency. This person will value training and empowering lay leaders to do the work of ministry. They will be self-motivated, diligent in doing their work, and committed to spiritual growth in their personal life and ministry.
